Place your PDF file on a Web host to make it viewable on the Web. Check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to see if the company offers free hosting space, or use an online resource like FreePDFHosting or KeepandShare. Follow the provider’s specific instructions for adding your document to the server and then record the location of the PDF so that you can properly link it. For example, a URL address for a PDF might look as follows: http://www.webhost.com/documents/file.pdf

Log in to your Facebook account and then choose the area, such as “News Feed” or “Wall,” where you want to upload the PDF file.

Click the “Link” icon underneath the text field and enter the address of your PDF from Step 1. Click the “Attach” button when done.

Type in an accompanying message in the text field above and click the “Share” button. Your PDF file now appears as a link and allows a visitor to view your file when she clicks on it.

1. Post in forums and include a link to your website or one of its pages.
You should choose a forum that is relevant to your website’s topic, and that allows its users to post links without the rel=nofollow tag. (This tag tells Google to disregard the link, although in my experience Google follows the link anyway, and in some cases even gives it a lot of weight, boosting the ranking of the target page – Google PageRank is overrated. For best results the links should be contextual: that is, they should be a natural part of the text. Write good, substantial, useful posts with a few contextual links to high-ranking websites, including your own. Make sure that the anchor text of each link is totally relevant to the target page; never use “click here” as the anchor text!

2. Syndicate content
Write articles and syndicate them on eZinearticles.com or some other service. Make sure the article contains a link to your website. These websites tend to rank quite highly and they are an excellent source of back-links. Of course users who decide to publish your articles will do so with your link.

3. Let as many people as possible know about your articles
The more people know about your articles, the more likely you are to get unsolicited inbound links. These links can come from a social book-marking website such as del.icio.us, or they can come from private websites.
If you have written genuinely useful articles you can ask online library services to link to you. Not all websites are suited to this sort of thing. If you sell shoes, it’s going to be extremely difficult to persuade a library or authoritative directory to link to you.

Conversely, if your website’s business is technical, there is plenty of scope for the creation of the sort of articles that authoritative libraries and directories are willing to link to. Do not approach them before you have produced a least 15 pages of extremely high-quality content. College websites are also great for this. You should contact them before filling your website with ads or anything else that is too commercial, if that is what you are aiming at.

4. Hold an online competition offering a desirable prize.
Word will spread fast and people will start linking to you in forums and blogs.

The key here is to make the competition something that people will want to discuss online.

5. Network and make friends
It is much easier to gain inbound links if you are on friendly terms with other experts and owners of websites. You’d be surprised at how many links you will accumulate if you make friends with the right people and have genuinely useful content on your website.

Taken from Janet Slacks Newsletter

Email newsletters are one of the best ways to stay in touch with customers and prospective customers in your coaching business. Producing a successful newsletter over time means that you are doing a lot of things right. You may want to read through this list of common newsletter mistakes in case there are items that you need to adjust to get even better results.

Mistake #1 – Lack of permission. The law (Can-Spam Act of 2003) says that in order to send ongoing emails to someone, you need that person’s specific permission. This does NOT mean that just because someone gave you their business card, you have permission to send them your newsletter. Never use such “assumed permission” but instead go with a clear, well defined double opt in system. Your goal should never be about the number of people on your newsletter list, but it should be about the level of interest those people have in your information and products. Only a list of genuinely interested people is an asset to your business.

Mistake #2 – No interaction. Marketing now is about relationships and not about broadcasting. If you are not giving your readers ways to interact with you and your business directly, you are not growing your relationships with those readers. In Biz Tips, you often see invitations to email me, suggestions to post comments on my blog and ways to connect with me through social media. You can be sure that I will answer you wherever you choose to connect. If you are not giving your newsletter readers options such as these, you are not growing your potential customer base by deepening your relationships.

Mistake #3 – Not monitoring and testing. Many of those who send email newsletters think that the work is done when they hit the send button. In order to be truly successful, you need to know what is happening on the recipient’s end. Your email delivery program should be able to tell you basic information such as what percentage of your newsletters are delivered, what percentage is opened and how often your links have been clicked. At a minimum, make changes and test your results in order to improve those numbers.

Mistake #4 – Ignoring mobile devices. Recent numbers say that as much as 64% of email use is now done through IPhones, Blackberrys, Androids and tablets of all kinds. It has become increasingly important to know what your messages look like on mobile devices, especially if your newsletters are sent in HTML format. Get a mobile device, check out the look of your design and make any changes necessary for readability and appeal.

If you truly want to make sure your newsletter and mobile marketing is working for you book a free session to discuss how I can help.

A hash tag is simply a way for people to search for tweets that have a common topic. For example, if you search on #PUPPY (or #Puppy or #puppy, because it’s not case-sensitive), you’ll get a list of tweets related to the puppies. What you won’t get are tweets that say “I lost my puppy yesterday” because “puppy” isn’t preceded by the hash tag.

If you want to create a community of people with a common interest you can simply create a tweet with the hash tag in it. For example: Fellow puppy lovers. Let’s share tips and tricks by adding #puppy to our tweets.

Before you create the hash tag you will want to make sure it does not already exist. To do this do a regular Twitter search for puppy.

The possibilities are endless on Twitter if you use your creative thinking and stay up-to-date on the latest trends!

Twitter leaves many people perplexed. Just what is the point and why should I Tweet? How Can I be a Better Tweeter? Here are some tips taken from http://news.cnet.com/how-to-be-a-better-tweeter/

The Sweet Retweet
Although it’s a relatively new practice, retweeting is an outstanding way to improve your standing on Twitter.

Has one of your followers updated their Twitter stream with an interesting article they found somewhere on the Web? If so, don’t just read the story and go about your day, retweet it! I’ve found that when I do so, most of my followers will do the same and in the process, some add my username to their own update, exposing me to their entire list of followers. Not all articles are created equal, though, so you need to make sure that the message you’re retweeting is something your followers actually care about. I learned the hard way: it turns out my followers really don’t care about horseback riding in Moscow.
To retweet, the accepted practice is to copy the original text into your own Twitter post and prefix it with “RT” or “Retweet” and the originator’s name. For example: “RT @donreisinger: I resubscribed to the NY Post last week. Delivery was supposed to begin on Jan. 31. I have YET to receive a paper.”

Sorry, but no one cares about your dinner
There’s a common complaint, made especially by those who don’t like Twitter, that too many people use the service to tell the world about things no one cares about. Usually, I think that’s ridiculous. But sometimes, I find a few updates like that and realize that maybe those folks aren’t so far off. Look, it’s nothing personal and believe it or not, I really care what you say, but I couldn’t care less about what you had for dinner last night or how delicious your chicken salad sandwich is. I’d much rather see it filled with retweets and other interesting tidbits of information that the vast majority of users actually care about.
You’re probably wondering how I know that it doesn’t make you a better Tweeter. Unfortunately, I learned my lesson not long ago. The hard way.

Reply. A lot.
I like to talk. I’ll even admit that I like to hear myself talk. As a Twitter user, that’s sort of a problem. Believe it or not, followers actually want to believe that you’re listening to them. I know, I know, it’s not all that easy and sometimes it’s hard not to laugh at the dumb tweets, but you need to exercise restraint and realize that Twitter is a community where people want to have a conversation. I had some trouble with that. And if you look at my recent updates, it seems I still do. But I’m getting better. I now realize that people on Twitter don’t want to just hear what others have to say, they want to be heard. And the best way to satisfy that desire is to reply to their interesting tweets.

Find interesting stuff and post
You know when I told you that you should retweet interesting updates you see in your stream? That’s lazy. You really need to be a proactive user. Go out and find neat articles and post them in your Twitter stream for others to enjoy. Maybe they’ll retweet your update and you will be exposed to a slew of new people who want to know all about you. I did it on a few occasions and it worked beautifully. It turns out many of my followers really enjoy tech talk and discussions on sports. Whenever I find a good article on those topics, I post it on Twitter and more often than not, my followers retweet my update.

It’s OK to say nothing
Just because there’s a big box beneath a “What are you doing?” message in Twitter, it doesn’t mean that you need to say anything. I’m not quite sure why we all get the urge to update as often as possible, but we need to realize that updates from scripts are a waste of everyone’s time. Look, I’m really happy to hear about your life and what’s going on, but I don’t need to be inundated with items you’re adding to Google Reader or songs currently playing on your computer. Maybe someone cares, but when I see my stream being overrun with automatic updates, it annoys me. Don’t do it. Please.

Use hashtags
Have something interesting to say on a topic that’s hot on Twitter right now? Make sure you use hashtags — keywords preceded by the hash sign, “#”. Over the past few months, hashtags have become a great way for other users to find content quickly.
Hashtags basically create groupings on Twitter that combine content of the same topic. It sounds simple, but whenever you have something really interesting to say about a topic that’s hot on Twitter or Twitter Search, it doesn’t hurt to place a hashtag after your tweet. It helps others find your update that aren’t following you and exposes you to new people who might like what you have to say.

It’s more than text
Have you ever taken pictures and uploaded them to a service like Twitpic so you could post it in your Twitter stream? If you haven’t, your followers are missing out.
Sending pictures is a great way to add more value to Twitter and make you a better Tweeter. Let’s face it: who really wants to look at text all day? Your followers might actually like pictures better than your regular updates.
