Welcome to Tip Tuesdays! It’s National Procrastination Week

Get It Done Tip – How Work at Home Entrepreneurs Can Conquer Procrastination

It’s National Procrastination Week (March 1 – 7, 2010) so it’s a good time as busy entrepreneurs to think about how to conquer procrastination. When you work at home it’s so easy to procrastinate. Why? Because you’re always busy.

You can confuse being busy with being productive. They are not the same thing.

For me, having three children and a home-based business make for a very busy day (as I’m sure you can relate to). There are lunches to pack, carpools to run, emails to answer, and calls to make. While all these tasks are necessary for me to run a household, and care for my children, I can use them as an excuse to procrastinate important projects that will help me grow my business.

It’s too easy, and as work at home entrepreneurs we’re all guilty of getting caught up in activities that take our time but get us nowhere in our business. I call these “time vampires” because they literally take the life out of our business.

Some Examples of Time Vampires (during business hours) Include:

• Checking emails constantly throughout the day
• Answering your personal phone line (except if it’s an emergency)
• Doing household chores and errands

The solutions is to vanquish these time vampires and intentionally set aside dedicated time and focus on activities that directly impact our bottom line.

Here are some practical ways to get moving on a project you’ve been procrastinating:

• Chunk out times of the day for particular revenue-generating activities.

• Focus on only one task at a time.

• Close applications on your computer to prevent distraction.

Instead of procrastinating you’ll start using your work time more efficiently. As a result you’ll be able to enjoy your personal time—knowing you’ve already engaged in activities that are moving your business forward.

Top 10 Entrepreneurship Books

In CategorySelf Improvement
Byadmin

A fellow Ryzer posted this today and I thought you would enjoy!

Listed below are the 10 entrepreneurship books that shaped Zeke Camusio as an entrepreneur and even as a person. I believe that these books can make you a more successful business person and, more importantly, a happier person.  I am on my way to the books store now…what about you?

Happy Reading
Sherry Lynn

Ready, Fire, Aim – http://www.amazon.com/Ready-Fire-Aim-Million-Agora/dp/0470182024/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266205306&sr=1-1
Michael Masterson is my hero. The guy is a very successful serial entrepreneur and teaches some of the most important business lessons ever in his book Ready, Fire, Aim.

Go Big or Go Home – http://www.amazon.com/Go-BIG-HOME-Wil-Schroter/dp/1599712741/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266205389&sr=1-3
Wil Schroter has a way to approach business that makes him unique. Don’t even think about starting your own company without reading this book first.

The Knack – http://www.amazon.com/Knack-Street-Smart-Entrepreneurs-Handle-Whatever/dp/1591842212/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266189840&sr=8-2
I really enjoyed reading this book. Norm teaches a lot of great business lessons using stories, which makes the book very fun to read.

The 4-Hour Workweek – http://www.amazon.com/4-Hour-Workweek-Expanded-Updated-Cutting-Edge/dp/0307465357/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266190095&sr=8-1
Tim Ferris is like no other guy I know and his book is certainly unique. What I like about The 4-Hour Workweek is how it’s all about making enough money to be happy (and then spend the rest of your time living your life) instead of making as much money as you can. This book will make you re-think a lot of your assumptions about priorities and life.

StartupNation – http://www.amazon.com/StartupNation-Americas-Entrepreneurial-Building-Blockbuster/dp/0385512481/ref=pd_sim_b_60
Jeff and Rich Sloan are two very successful entrepreneurs and the founders of StartupNation.com, the #1 online community for entrepreneurs. Their book shares a lot of great stories that will give you the inspiration you need to grow your company.

The Big Book of Small Business – http://www.amazon.com/Big-Book-Small-Business-Pants/dp/0061206695/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266205638&sr=1-1
I really liked Tom Gegax’s approach to business. He talks a lot about being a great leader and building remarkable teams. Highly recommended.

The Art of the Start – http://www.amazon.com/Art-Start-Time-Tested-Battle-Hardened-Starting/dp/1591840562/ref=pd_sim_b_3
Guy Kawasaki is one of my favorite people in the whole world. He’s smart, funny and overall a great guy. The Art of the Start has some of the brightest business lessons I’ve learned in my life.

The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur – http://www.amazon.com/Toilet-Paper-Entrepreneur-Mike-Michalowicz/dp/0981808204/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266205770&sr=1-1
Mike Michalowicz did a great job writing this book. It’s all about how entrepreneurs overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. This book is full of great ideas for the small business owner.

Go It Alone! – http://www.amazon.com/Go-Alone-Building-Successful-Business/dp/0060731141/ref=pd_sim_b_6
Go It Alone! is fun to read, full of stories, tips and step-by-step guides.

Flying Solo – http://www.amazon.com/Flying-Solo-How-Alone-Business/dp/1741144248/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266189851&sr=8-5
A great book that will teach you how to balance work and life and how to put your priorities in order. If you’re a business owner, you have to read this book.

What are YOUR favorite entrepreneurship books?

5-Step Process That Uncovers Your Crazy-Mind Dragons

In CategorySelf Improvement
Byadmin

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”
~ Benjamin Franklin

THERE’S A SMALL SQUIRREL IN MY BACKYARD running with an acorn. I watch him for a minute when suddenly he is attacked by another squirrel attempting to steal his acorn. After a long struggle the smaller squirrel runs away, unfortunately without his acorn. I wonder if that squirrel will still be holding angry thoughts toward the squirrel that sold his dinner?

No other life form on planet Earth seems to hold so much negativity in their mind, body, and life as the human race.

Think about it, you may see an angry squirrel chasing another for an acorn, but I bet the anger is forgotten once the other squirrel has eaten the acorn.

Wouldn’t you agree?

There are millions of patterns in the subconscious mind.

The patterns that actually work for you can be left alone, but the patterns that aren’t working can be explored and retrained.

But how do you find them?

How do you bring them into your conscious awareness?

These dragons are stopping you from living the life of your dreams.

Let’s talk about how you can uncover your own unique hidden limiting beliefs and mental patterns (dragons).

Step 1: Observe your thoughts first. The thought precedes that habit/addiction/pattern/dragon

Step 2: When the thought comes up ask yourself, “Is this thought of
past, present, or future? Is this true for all mankind?”

Step 3: Redirect the mind into the present time. (The past is a mere memory and the future is a mere fantasy. This means that you need to deal with issues in the now.)

Step 4: How do you experience that thought/dragons and feel right now? How does it feel?

Step 5: Write down the situation in your journal and name your dragon.
